William J. Carty Jr. (Bill) surrendered to his 25-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis in Crestview, FL today to join his family in a better place. Bill was a draftsman for the State of Ohio for 27 years. He was a 30 year volunteer with the Red Cross Disaster Services and travelled in response to several natural disasters including Hurricanes Andrew and Ivan, the San Bernardino Earthquake and numerous fire emergencies in Columbus, OH. He was also active in the Civil Air Patrol and the Soap Box Derby. He was an adjunct professor and taught AutoCAD to many students. He has published two science fiction novels. Most recently he served as the President of the Residence Council at Crestview Rehabilitation Center. He is preceded in death by his wife Kathy, father William J. Carty, Sr., step-fathers Edward Murphy and Jerry Dellacamera, grandparents Owen and Alice Carty, Otto and Nora Sprouse and nephew Nathanial Smith. He is survived by his step-son Scott (Rose) Gray and step-daughter Amy (Tom) Bennett, Grandchildren Jessica Gray, Daniel Gray, Sadie Gray, Grayson Bennett, and Kiera Bennett, his mother Eleanora Dellacamera, step-mother Linda Carty, sister Nora (Kevin) Horvet, brother Pat (Sharon), sister Stephenie (Steve) Roberts, brother Tim (Tami) Carty, and step-sisters Rose (Steve) Clapp and Adrienne (Eric) Olson. He is deeply cherished and will be missed by his many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and greats. Especially his 19 nieces and nephews: Terry, Nick, Laura, Katie, Megan, Anthony, Eric, Zac, Courtney, Saraia, Sam, Tommy, Brian, Elicia, Missy, Jessie, Kari, Drew and Abby; he was Uncle Bill. The family will hold separate memorials for family and friends in Columbus, OH and Fort Walton Beach, FL on dates to be determined. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The American Red Cross or a Multiple Sclerosis charity of your choice in his name.
