Blumel, Thomas B. 67, of Old Town, FL, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Born in August 1949, he was the son of the late Raymond and Helen Blumel. He moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1965 with his parents from his native St. Paul, MN and moved north to Florida's Nature Coast in 1981. Tom, as he was known, retired from Fairchild Hiller Corporation in Clearwater where he was a C-130 aircraft mechanic. While living in the Nature Coast area, he operated a non-profit wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center for several years. Tom loved boating, fishing, motorcycles, restoring classic cars, raccoons, cats, helping others and supported the Paralyzed Veterans of America for the last 15 years. He is survived by his children, Thomas Jr., Green Cove Springs and Michelle, Quincy; 3 grandchildren, Michael, Ashlie and Travis; 3 siblings, Raymond Jr., Land O' Lakes, Donna, St. Petersburg and Stephen, Ft. Myers; and 1 nephew, Raymond III, Land O' Lakes. Rev. Johnny Burdick will officiate a Celebration of Life service for family and friends at noon on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at his daughter's home in Quincy, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to animal rescue and veterans causes such as the Gadsden County Humane Society (www.facebook.com/GadsdenHumane), St. Francis Wildlife Association (www.stfranciswildlife.org) and Paralyzed Veterans of America (www.SupportVeterans.org).
