Shirley P. Ottinger

September 26, 1941 — June 21, 2024

Tallahassee

Shirley Prevatt Ottinger, 82, passed away June 21, 2024 in Tallahassee, FL. She was born in Archer, FL, and grew up in Tallahassee, graduating from Leon High School and becoming an ardent Florida State Seminoles fan, as one does as a person of good breeding.

She spent many years at the Ausley McMullen Law Firm as a paralegal. After her retirement, she worked part-time at Allied Veterinary Emergency Hospital.

She was a Christian who is now experiencing total grace. She also loved dogs, and had many beloved canine companions; her love for her pets was a testament to her compassionate nature. She loved the beach and was a voracious reader, and treasured time spent with friends and family.

She is survived by her children, Vicki Sealey Rhodes (husband Andy) and Michael Sealey, both of Tallahassee, Florida, and Joseph Ottinger (wife Brenda) of Youngsville, North Carolina, and her many grandchildren, as well as her brother, Joe Prevatt of Tallahassee, Florida. She doted on her parents, Eunice and Murrel Prevatt, and took care of both her mother and her father in their waning years.

Known for her style, wit, and elegance, Shirley faced life's challenges with grace and determination. She lived her life on her own terms, always making the best of her circumstances. Her strength and resilience are remembered by all who knew her.

A memorial service is being planned in the fall of 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Shirley Ottinger Angel Fund at the Allied Veterinary Emergency Hospital at 2324 Centerville Road Tallahassee, FL 32308, or by calling them at 850-222-0123.
