Scott Wesley Smith, 45 of Havana, School Teacher at Florida High died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 at his home in Havana. His memorial service will be at 11:00am Tuesday, Sept.8, 2009 at Centenary Methodist Church in Quincy, FL. The family will receive friends after the service. Scott was born September 8, 1963 in Norfolk, VA. He grow up in Crystal Lake, IL. Later he earned his Bachelor of Sciencie Degree in Speech Communication in December of 1985 at Southern Illinois University. In June of 1997 he earned his Master Degree in Education at North Central College in Naperville, IL. (President's List 3.90 / 4.00) Scott taught school at Crystal Lake Central High School for many years before moving to the Tallahassee area. He was Assistant Professor, Florida State University School (Florida High). He taught various performing arts and English courses including H. S. Drama, M. S. Drama, Mass Media/TV Production, Broadcast Communications, Speech Communication, and Introduction to Film to students in 6th through 12th grades. He was well known for his story telling abilities an the ability to express his stories. His affliations include National Storytelling Network, Florida State Representative to National Youth Storytelling Showcase, Committee member of the Youth and Educators Storytelling Special Interest Group, Florida State Storytelling Association and He was also a committee member for Youthful Voices storytelling showcase.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Anita Smith of Havana; his two sons Tyler and Austin Smith, both of Havana; his parents William and Karen Smith of Crystal Lake, IL; a brother, Gregory Smith of Cary, IL.; a sister, Patricia Wascher, Huntley, IL.; his father and mother-in-law John and Karen Loberg of Henderson, NV.; and a sister-in-law, Terri Loberg.
