Richard Marvin Brown, 88 of Havana Florida died Wednesday, Sept.10, 2008 at his home. Funeral service will be at 3:00pm (EDT)Sunday, September 14 2008 at Salem United Methodist Church in Havana. The internment will be at 2:00pm (CDT) Monday at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 pm Saturday Sept. 13, 2008 at the funeral home. Mr. Brown was born Dec. 3, 1919 in Birmingham, AL. After high School he attended Birmingham Southern College, studying engineering. He was drafted in the Army on April 24,1942. He was attached to the 75th Infantry Division: Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland. He was Communication specialist. He was a proud American, and proud of his service record to his country. After the his service on Jan 6, 1945 he married his wife Margaret. He then attend and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for South Alabama Electric Cooperative in Troy, AL. for more than 25 years. He then started his service with Talquin Electric Cooperative on May 6, 1974 as Director of Engineering Services in the Electric Department.At Talquin, Marvin as he was called, quickly made many new friends who, in his own words, "made me feel welcome." It was easy working with and befriending Marvin because he was so easy to get along with and absorbed the Engineering Department duties easily. After about 13 years of employment at Talquin, Mr. Brown ended his years of service on December 31, 1987.Later serving as a consultant. He will be missed by his Talquin Electric family. He was also a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret Parham Brown of Havana One daughter Clare Louise Davis-Roth of Havana One granddaughter Bonnye Elizabeth Westphal (and husband Wayne) of Havana. Two great grand children Logan Richard and Kenneth Wayne Westphal of Havana. One brother G.B. Brown of Birmingham, AL. and one sister Anita Brown May of Birmingham, AL.
