Ona Marie “Ree” Gibson
December 9, 1929 – November 6, 2021
Ona Marie “Ree” Gibson passed into the loving arms of her Savior on November 6th. She is
preceded by the love of her life, Jimmy, who passed away earlier this year on July 28th; they were
married for 65 years before his death. She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed
at her home in Havana. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. EST on Monday, November 15th at Faith Funeral Home, Havana FL. followed by the interment at Tallahassee Memory Gardens at 2:00 P.M. EST Tallahassee, Florida. Marie is survived by her son Paul, two daughters, Donna (Rick
Formby), Priscilla (M. Jack Davidson). She left behind six grandchildren, Cara Hunt, Amanda
Andrews, Johanna Bell (Dustin), Lauren Goodheart (Matt), Jack Davidson and Paul Davidson
(Brandy), ten great grandchildren and one on the way. Marie was born in Leon County and was
predeceased by her parents, Paul and Leola Maige. She had three sisters, Lois Perryman
(Charles), Eloise Summers (Don), and Genevieve Culbreth (Jack) . As a young girl, she enjoyed
helping her mother and father on their family farm in Tallahassee. She graduated from Leon
High School in 1948 and took business courses at Lively Technical College then worked for the
Leon County School Board at the main office for over 37 years. Marie and Jim met while
attending Immanuel Baptist Church. She and Jim square danced back in the 70’s. She sewed and
made six wedding dresses and many bridesmaid dresses. She volunteered at Godby High School
to support her children and the band. Marie and Jim were members of East Hill Baptist Church
for over 58 years. Following her retirement in 1990, she and Jim continued with the operation of
their plant nursery that they ran for 20 years, Greenwood Nursery. She and Jim traveled some
following retirement to visit family and friends. After they closed the nursery in 1998, they
moved to Havana. She enjoyed planning her high school class reunions and celebrated her 70th
in 2018. In her spare time at home, she enjoyed gardening, ceramics, acrylic painting, putting
puzzles together, sewing, bird watching, cooking, and baking, but most of all, she took pleasure
in doing for others. Up until she became ill in October of 2020, she still cooked three meals a
day. Marie formed special friendships with her caretakers and Hospice team. The family is
forever grateful for their support.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to East Hill Baptist Church or Big Bend Hospice.
