Biography

Maryell Vickers Wood, 85, of Tallahassee died Saturday, January 5, 2013 in Tallahassee. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on, Monday, January 14, 2013 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana with Reverend Karen D. Pellett officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. The interment will follow at Concord Cemetery. Born in Concord on April 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John E. Vickers and Mary Ella Poppell Vickers. On February 2, 1948, she married Harvey G. Wood. She was a long time resident of Tallahassee.
She is survived by a grandson, Nickalaus Ian (Nick) Wood; a sister, Sarah Perkins; two sisters-in-law, Jennie Wood and Mary E. Wood; Julie Thigpen, who was like a granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and a very special neighbor.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; a son, John Earl Wood; brothers, James Vickers, Leonard Vickers, Carl Vickers, Reuben Vickers, Council Vickers and Russell Vickers; and two sisters, Lois Lowe and Grace Harrison.
