Mable J. Lee Duncan, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at her home in Havana, Florida.
Mable was the daughter of David Jackson Lee and Ruth Pearl Ryals Lee born in July 1942, the third of seven children. She was born on the farm near Repton, Alabama where she spent her childhood. Mable graduated from Repton High School in May 1960. She went to Pensacola, Florida and worked at Chemstrand (later Monsanto). There she met Richard Duncan who was stationed in Pensacola. They were married April 12, 1962, two weeks after he returned from Vietnam. In 1964 he was stationed in Newfoundland and she went up there. Then she returned to Pensacola and he went on the USS Enterprise to Southeast Asia. After he was discharged in 1966, they went to his home state of Kansas.
She started college at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas and finished at Florida State University with a degree in accounting. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. They came to Tallahassee in 1980, where Richard was employed with FAA.
Mable was a member of the Havana Garden Club and served as president for 4 years. She was a member of Salem Methodist Church in Havana.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and by two brothers Kenneth Lee and Clayton Lee and sister Dorothy Barnes. She is survived by her son William Duncan (Mary) and daughter Donna Duncan (Samuel Chapman) and one granddaughter Kinsey Duncan; two sisters, Bonnie Baggett (Franklin) and Eva Bullard (Steve); one brother, Marion Lee, and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 6-8 pm at the Faith Funeral Home Chapel, Havana, Florida. A graveside funeral service will be on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 1 pm CST / 2 pm EST at Springhill Methodist Church Cemetery, Repton, Alabama.
