Judy Lois Poppell Cook, 56 of Havana, went to be with her Heavenly Father Sunday, August 7, 2011 after a courageous nine year battle with Breast Cancer.
Judy was born January 24, 1955 to Elbert "Bully" and Jewel Poppell. She graduated from North Florida Christian School, class of 1973. Judy retired from Florida State University and after retirement worked for Goodwill Industries where she loved helping others. She was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church in Havana, where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and Salem card angel. For the past ten years, Judy was very involved with The American Cancer Society and the Havana Relay for Life.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Cook Taylor (Ben), granddaughters, Caylee and Ava Taylor, parents, Elbert "Bully" and Jewel Poppell, brother, Wayne Poppell (Sandy), sister, Lucy Poppell, niece, Christy Poppell Teuton, nephew, Allen Poppell (Andrea), great-nephews, Adam and Trey Teuton, Austin Eudy, Aidan Poppell, great-niece, Addy Poppell and caregiver, Gloria Estes.
Judy was lovingly known by her granddaughters as My-Maw. Caylee and Ava were her pride and joys. They brought smiles to her face, even through the pain. My-Maw will be deeply missed and always remembered by her two "sweet girls".
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Faith Funeral Home in Havana. The service will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11:00 am at Salem United Methodist Church also in Havana, Florida with a private family interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery. At Judy's request, anyone attending her visitation or service is encouraged to wear pink to honor and remember all those affected by breast cancer.
