John Gillan, Sr

John Joseph Gillan, 84 of Havana, FL. passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at his residence.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at St. Thomas of the Apostle Church in Quincy, FL. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Faith Funeral Home in Havana (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com.)
Mr. Gillan was born on August 11, 1930 in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania to the late Francis Gillan and the late Gertrude Cummings Gillan. He retired from a distinguished military career in the USAF as Chief Master Sergeant after nearly 3 decades of service. A decorated military service including receiving two prestigious bronze stars for heroic achievements. He represented USAF to the Chinese Air Force in Taiwan and was a Korean and Vietnam veteran. After honorable retirement from USAF, he was employed as head of security for Anheuser Busch at Busch Gardens, Tampa. After moving to Havana he pursued yet a third career in 1997 with the Golf Club of Quincy where he rose to food and beverage manager and general manager. John was a people person. He was gracious and loved making people comfortable and happy. This was evident at home, with his friends and wherever he worked. He was a member of American Legion Post 13. He loved sports especially playing softball, baseball and bowling. He was an avid golfer. He was a loving husband and care giver to his wife Dorothy, loyal and dedicated manager, caring and devoted father of John Jr and Judy. John loved his family dearly and was committed to their welfare and happiness. His love was unconditional. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Quincy.
He is survived by his children John Gillan, Jr (wife Theresa) of Davie, FL; and Judy Gillan of Havana; His grandson Michael Lucien Gillan; his brother Thomas and Ruth Gillan of Morton, Pennsylvania; Sister Joan and Leo Francis Doyle of Springfield, Pennsylvania; Sister Ann and Clement Bellace of Casselberry, FL and Sister Gertrude and Harrison ( deceased) Gaston of Audubon, New Jersey
