Biography

John Richard Edenfield died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Big Bend Hospice House. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 11:00 a.m., Killearn United Methodist Church, Tallahassee.

John was born in Cairo, GA, August 15, 1924 to Gilbert Moultrie Edenfield and Mary Shellie Kitchen Edenfield. He grew up in Tallahassee graduating from Leon High School. He serverd on the aircraft carrier the Lexington for three years in the Pacific during World War II. Upon being discharged from the Navy, he attended Florida State College for Women. He was in the first class of men to graduate from what is now Florida State University.

John moved to Orlando in 1950, where he worked in the automobile business until he retired having been with Holler Chevrolet, Winter Park, in several managerial positions. He ended his career at Starling Chevrolet, Kissimmee. John was active in Rotary and had more than 25 years perfect attendance. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Orange Tree Country Club, Orlando. He is survived by his wife Gloria Lester Edenfield of Orlando. In 1993, they moved back to Tallahassee so that Gloria could continue her career with the Florida Bankers Associaiton. He continued playing golf at Golden Eagle Golf and County Club. John loved working in the yard, reading, traveling, playing golf and tinkering in the garage.

Lester Dan Flowers was John's only child. John adored Danny and Cindy and their daughter, Danielle. Other survivors include one sister Martha Parent (Bob), Ormond Beach, a sister-in-law, Diana Linzer, Sebring and several nieces and nephews as well as his kitty, GiGi.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice or Killearn United Methodist Church.
