Rev. John Emory Cone

On Monday, January 25, 2021, Rev. John Emory Cone, loving pastor, husband, and father of two children, went home to be with Jesus after living 81 years on this earth.

John “Emory” (as he was known to many) was born in Lenox, Georgia on October 20, 1939 to the late Cyrus “Buck” and Ivie Cone. John was in the Navy for almost 10 years, proudly serving his country. He was graciously saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in 1972 and two years later surrendered to God’s call to ministry.  He was humbled by this call to serve His Lord and Savior, and entered into the gospel ministry upon graduating from Trinity College in Dunedin, Florida in 1978. He faithful served the local church as a pastor until his retirement in December 2015.

John and Latrelle Burgess Cone were married on August 9, 1959 and were married for sixty-one years. They raised two children together: Teresa Lynn Cone Erskine (husband, Eric), and Ronald Cyrus Cone (wife, Amy).

John loved to preach, fish, and spend time with his family. He loved nothing more than to talk about the bible with folks – talking with anyone he could share the truth of the Bible with and how it had transformed his life … and how it could change their life as well. Anytime his grandkids or wife wanted to go fishing, he’d get a plan and “after a while” they would go. From the shore or the boat, it’s didn’t matter, Papa would always bring home a big catch and they would have a fish fry.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus & Ivie Cone, five of his siblings; Hoover Ellis, Junior Cone, Dolly Cone Peacock, Charles Cone, and Larry Cone, and his granddaughter, Kaci Christine Erskine. He is survived by his wife, Latrelle Burgess Cone, his sisters Carolyn “Sister” Cone Moore and Patsy Cone Bryant, his daughter Teresa Erskine, son, Ronnie Cone, twelve grandchildren; Amanda, Cody, Rebekah, Conrad, Christopher, Katlynne, Micah, Hallie, Jacob, Alex, Logan, Jace, and one sweet great-grandson, Jack.
