Jimmy “Jim” Roswell Gibson, 90, passed away at his home in Havana on July 28, 2021 at 2:00
p.m. He is survived by his wife, Ona Marie “Ree” Gibson, his son Paul, two daughters, Donna
and her husband, Rick Formby, Priscilla and her husband, Jack Davidson. He left behind six
grandchildren, Cara Hunt, Amanda Andrews, Johanna Bell (husband Dustin), Lauren Goodheart
(husband Matt), Jack Davidson and Paul Davidson (wife Brandy). He had 10 great
grandchildren and one on the way.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, A. A. and Katie Gibson, and stepmother, Margaret. He had
three sisters, Mgr. Lucille Gibson, Mary Cook (husband Granville), Willie Harris (husband
James), a brother Paul (wife Ruby), and two stepbrothers, Joe (wife Mae), and Odell Roaten.
Jim was a native of Statesville, N.C. In his late teens, he and is good buddy hitched hiked out
West, to work the wheat harvests. Their plan was to go to Alaska, but winter was coming, so
their plans changed, and they returned home. Jim later worked in the furniture industry, Western
Union, and Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, MD. He later joined the US Army and
served two years in Japan during the Korean War.
After his army life, Jim attended Florida Barber College in Jacksonville, FL and became a
self-employed barber. He later purchased Malloy’s Barber Shop and renamed it, Gibson’s
Barber Shop, which he ran and operated for 35 plus years. During these years, he and his wife
Ree also owned and operated a plant nursery in Tallahassee, Greenwood Nurseries. They sold
the nursery in 1998 and moved to Havana, FL.
