Biography

Jewel Christine Dees Poppell, 87, of Havana, FL. passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 in Tallahassee.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church in Havana, with a private family burial at Woodland Cemetery, Pastor Greg Doss officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 5 until 7:00 p.m. at Faith Funeral Home in Havana (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com)

Mrs. Jewel was born February 14, 1927 in Quincy, FL. The daughter of the late Maxie D. Dees and the late Lois Hart Dees. She has lived in Havana most of her life. She received her bachelor's degree in Education from Florida State University (her class named the football team the Florida State Seminoles) she was always proud of that fact. She was a member of Delta Zeta at Florida State. She taught school for 35 years in the public school system. She joined Salem United Methodist Church in 1938. She taught Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Elbert "Bully" Poppell of Havana; her son Wayne A. Poppell (wife Sandy) of Havana; a daughter Lucy L. Poppell of Havana; three grandchildren Christina Poppell Whitfield (husband John) of Crawfordville; Allen Poppell (wife Andrea) of Thomasville; and Kim Cook Taylor (husband Ben) of Tallahassee. Ten great-grandchildren Adam Teuton, Trey Teuton, Connor Whitfield, Hayden Whitfield, Addison Poppell, Aidan Poppell, Austin Eudy, Caylee Taylor, Ava Taylor and Drystan Taylor.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Judy Poppell Cook in 2011
