James Ladd Maxwell, 88 of Havana passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 at his home. His funeral service will be 10:30 am. Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel, with military honors. A private family burial will be at Woodland Cemetery. His family will receive friends after the service. Mr. Maxwell was born in Grady County, GA. April 18, 1921. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII. He was Chief of Police in Havana for many years. He also worked at the Ford Dealership in Havana as a mechanic and service writer for many years. He served on the Havana Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years (1949 to1983) Mr. Maxwell was honored to raised the Navy flag at the Havana Memorial Dedication Service in 2006.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucile Maxwell of Havana. a son James "Jimmy" Maxwell of Tallahassee (and wife Shirley); a sister Elsie Thomas of Cairo, GA; a granddaughter Phoebe Singletary of Tallahassee, and 3 great grandchildren.
