Hughey Long Barrett

Hughey Long Barrett, 80 of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Barrett retired from Florida State University Physical Plant Division. He retired as Assistant Director of the Grounds Dept. in 1990. He started his lawn maintenance company in 1983, retiring in 2002. Although he worked and retired from FSU he loved the Florida Gators. His hobbies included fly fishing, nascar racing, growing tomatoes, peppers, collards and onions. He loved sharing his harvest with his neighbors and family. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing, coaching and umpiring city league softball. He also coached little league football for the city.

Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife of 46 years Susan Baumgardner Barrett, his two daughters Sabrina Carter and Tonya Barrett of Tallahassee; His precious grandchildren Amber Marconnet (Brian); Matthew Carter; Taylor Barrett all of Tallahassee; Colton Barrett of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Leeah Jackson and Zoey Bryant of Tallahassee and two great-grandchildren Barrett and Avery Marconnet of Tallahassee.

He is also survived by his three sisters Kay Alday and Delores Knight of Tallahassee and Debbie Greenwood of St. Cloud and also his mother-in-law Hazel Baumgardner of Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Robbie Barrett; brother Frank Barrett and his son Mike Barrett.

His family will host a visitation and reception from 6 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Faith Funeral Home in Havana. A private graveside funeral service will be held at Concord Cemetery.
