Harvey James Mashewske
February 3, 1949-August 31, 2015
Harvey, known to some as Stub, though I never knew why, was the man of my life for nearly 34 years, the man with whom I shared both laughter and tear, the man I loved even when we disagreed as couples often do. While I loved him with my whole heart, his sons and grandsons brought him great joy and were a source of deep seeded love in his life.
Harvey was born in Elmira, New York, to Charles and Jean Mashewske. He attended High School in Horseheads, New York and was a graduate of the school of "common sense" and hard work. He proudly handed his mother his GED certificate as a Christmas present the year he turned 40.
Even has a young adult he loved to farm and wanted to spend his life on a tractor. While he would rather have turned the earth on his John Deere, he spent many more years on another type of tractor, a Freightliner . He was an over the road driver for A & P, before hauling miscellanies freight for Central Transport. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union, local 135. Shortly after moving to Quincy he began hauling for Quincy Farms and continued with the Farm in various trucking capacities for almost 22 years. In the last years he hauled mushroom compost to nurseries and farmers to help them prepare for their crops bringing him closer to his true love of farming. He used that same compost to nourish his garden and produce his own crops, especially sweet corn.
Harvey was proud to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. He was a hard worker in any endeavor he attempted. His word was as good as gold.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Ruth Mashewske, his sons' Christopher Mashewske, Penn Yan, New York, Scott Mashewske & his wife Pamela, Penn Yan, New York, James Mashewske, Charles Town, West Virginia, 8 grandsons-Joshua, Kyle, Thomas, Michael, Jonathan, Andrew, Bradley, and Matthew, his sister, Sue Lincoln, Clifton Springs, New York and his brother, Boyd Mashewske, Charleston, South Carolina and many more nieces and nephews.
