Harold Lamar Duke 92, of Havana went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, March 9, 2020. After a long and blessed life.
Mr. Duke was born may 24, 1927 in his grandmother’s bedroom in Phenix City, Alabama. His two year old brother nicknamed him “ Bubber” and has been called that by family and friends to this day. Bubber is the son of Clarence and Bertha Duke. He graduated from Albany High School where he enjoyed playing football. It was there that he fell in love with the prettiest cheerleader. After attending two years at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Texas. After the Navy & War, he married the prettiest cheerleader, Doris Jane Melton. They moved to Athens, Georgia where he completed his Agricultural Engineering degree. After forming Russell Daniel Irrigation company he and his family moved to Havana, Florida. There he irrigated shade tobacco then later golf courses throughout the United States and other parts of the world.
He is survived by his sister Joyce Farnell, Brunswick, GA., Son Bo Duke (wife Robin) of Athens, GA. Daughter Debby Tucker (husband Stanley) Havana, FL., Six Grandchildren Brad Touchton (wife Gaye) Whigham, GA., Duke Touchton (wife Grayson) Havana, FL. Evie Peacock (husband Jesse) Havana, FL., Ben Duke (wife LeAnne) Whigham, GA., Jessica Allen (husband Preston) Blue Ridge, GA., Jennifer Redman ( husband Russell) Cummings, GA., Michael Metz (wife Molly) Marietta, GA. Two nephews; DeLacy Allen III (wife Jera) Tamps, FL. Byron Allen Mobile, AL., and thirteen great-grand children.
The family graveside service will be held at Woodland Cemetery Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 3pm. Doctor Eric Erskine will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brad Touchton, Duke Touchton, Ben Duke, Blake Touchton and Delacy Allen III.
