George Edward Medley was born January 4, 1939 in Dothan Alabama and passed from this earth on June
23, 2022 in Tallahassee Fl. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Dennis) and by his
brother Robert, sister, Ruth and granddaughter, Danielle Eiland. He leaves behind sons, Dennis (Kim)
Medley, James and David Medley and daughters Deborah (Rick) Allmond and Melinda (Mike) Estep along
with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was the youngest of six children born to George and Bertha Medley. Beginning with his birth,
his strength, tenacity and sheer determination was forefront. Born at home early, he weighed
less than 2 pounds. He was placed in a padded shoebox for a bed, had to be fed by an
eyedropper, and folded handkerchiefs were his diapers. Even the doctor gave him the slimmest
chance of survival but he would prove him wrong and beat the odds. He remained a small man
in stature, but never in endurance, strength and heart. He owned and operated several businesses,
one of them being Ed’s Sing Station in Havana for
several years. His love of people and his genuine friendliness were his strongest assets and any
one that ever met “Mr. Ed” as he was lovingly known, loved him and respected him immensely.
He truly never met a stranger, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Always quick
with a handshake and a smile, his laugh and lighthearted spirit was contagious.
He loved the outdoors, his greatest passion being fishing. He never learned to swim, but that
did not stop him from getting in his boat and heading up river every chance he got. He was also
an avid gardener and took great pride in the beauty of his homegrown produce, and his weed-
free garden! He loved his family, and never missed the annual reunions, even after the passing
of his beloved Dorothy. He had a youthful and playful nature, and loved being around all the
children and they in turn loved being around him. Though he was not a big man, he had a huge presence
and will be greatly missed. He was truly
one of a kind and leaves a legacy of love, compassion, generosity, a strong work ethic and a
forever fun-loving spirit.
