George Ann Byrd, age 70, gained her angel wings and went to be with her Savior peacefully on January 9, 2025, due to cancer. She was born May 11, 1954, The daughter of James and Tinnie Meredith. She married her high school sweetheart, and the love of her life, Lawrence Byrd, on May 19, 1972, just before high school graduation, who preceded her in death in 2009.
George Ann loved her family, loved people, and loved the Lord. She spent hours at the ball fields while she was younger playing softball with the church and then while her daughter played softball and son played football. She loved to help others even if that meant taking the shirt off her back or giving her last, she would do it. She always said, “The Lord will provide.” And that was her motto throughout life. She had a huge heart and always wanted to help and to serve the Lord. She retired in 1999 from the Highway Safety Motor Vehicles after working 25 years. She also worked various other jobs throughout her life. She volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank when she could and has delivered food to many people in need. She was an avid Trump supporter and always said that he was her only president.
George Ann is survived by her two loving children, Michael Byrd of Quincy and Laura (Brian) Foss of Monticello; one grandson, her pride and joy who was not spoiled just loved, Cameron Byrd of Quincy and girlfriend Kariyah; her niece who was more like a daughter to her, Michelle Hosey; two sisters, Lee (Luke) Gibbs of Tallahassee and Ida Lee Harrell of Sopchoppy; and many generations of nieces, nephews and cousins. All of these she loved and touched deeply. She made sure that all her family knew that she loved them by showing up always. Always remember she is showing up in our hearts now and forever!!! (Laura)
She was preceded by her husband, Lawrence; mother and father, Tinnie and James; her brothers, James and John Meredith; her sister, Mary Lee; her brother-in-law, William Harrell; and her three nieces, Brenda Hall, Mary Louise, and Patricia Ann Porter, and nephew Wendell Hosey.
