GALEN RAY “JOE” BOYINGTON
HAVANA - Galen Ray “Joe” Boyington, 79, of Havana, passed away Sunday, Jan.28, 2018 at The Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House, Tallahassee, FL after a short battle with lung cancer.
He was born the eighth of nine children to Ashie Emma Jordan Boyington and Lawrence C. Boyington on June 13, 1938 in Bar Harbor, Maine. He graduated from Pemetic High School, S.W. Harbor, Maine in 1956 where he was a key player on the basketball team (Indians). He served 4 years as a military policeman in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Guam. Joe’s livelihood was in sales where he excelled in the wholesale furniture business for 25 years. Being an avid outdoorsman his passions were hunting, fishing and farm work. He owned acreage and cattle in Pasco County, Fl. In retirement he followed his passion for hunting and fishing relocating in Havana, Fl. During this time he was introduced to his “soulmate”, Mary Louise Blount, a true match made in heaven. They attended First Baptist Church of Quincy, FL. He enjoyed going to the men’s breakfast at Church and fish fry’s. Above all, He loved God, family and his country.
He was preceded in death by Joan Ayre Boyington, wife of 23 years, his parents, 7 sisters and brothers, 3 nephews and one niece. Survivors include his son, Joe Allan Boyington, Lutz, FL, daughter, Cathy Jameson, Lubec, Maine, brother, Lawrence C. Boyington, Jr. (Earlene), three grandchildren, Jonathan, Tyler, Jessica, one great-grandchild, Amelia and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life and Reception (drop-in) will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Faith Funeral Home Chapel in Havana, FL from 3-5 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 1332, Quincy, FL, 32353, Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL, 32308 or to the charity of your choice. Special thanks to all friends and family for their love, support and prayers.
