Frances Kirkland

Frances G. Kirkland, age 73, went home to be with the Lord and get Heaven straightened out on December 5, 2007. The funeral services will be at 11:00 am (CST) on Saturday, December 8. At Shiloh Baptist Church in Chipley with interment in the Shiloh Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Wiggins of Shiloh and the Rev. David Temples of Westwood Presbyterian Church in Dothan will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m.; The Family will receive flowers, However; those wishing to make memorial contributions are invited to consider the Sandra K. A lifelong native of Washington County, she was the daughter of Charles Easton Gainey and Hester Tabitha Owens. She attended Chipley High School, serving as the Secretary of the Class of 1951, a job that turned out to be for life, as she was instrumental in planning the class reunions for the next 55 years. For 36 years, she worked in the Finance Department of the Washington County School Board, retiring as Finance Officer in 1992. After her retirement, her advanced organizational and accounting skills were used in the service of the Tri-County Airport Commission, the West Florida Baptist Association, and Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was the first non-deacon to serve as Church Treasurer. She also served several years on the Chipley Zoning Board. She was an enthusiastic traveler, a meticulo us quilter, and a loving friend.
She is survived by her son, Lindy Kirkland, (and wife Anita) of Fredericksburg, VA; her daughter, Debbie Mitchell (and husband Jerry) of Groveland, FL; son-in-law Steve Fleck (and wife Caroline) of Boynton Beach, FL; seven grandchildren: Barry Mitchell of Tampa, FL; Sande Rae Kirkland of Edgewater, MD; Erin Wood, Rachel Wood, and Derek Wood of Fredericksburg, VA; John Steven Fleck of Blountstown, FL; Robert Fleck (and wife Lyn) of Marianna, FL; and one great-grandchild, Bryson Fleck.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kirkland Fleck.
