Florence Louise Powell Poklemba, 77, of Longwood, FL passed away surrounded by her family on January 31, 2024, from a traumatic brain injury following a fall on January 27, 2024.
She was born October 9, 1946 in Monticello, FL to Luke and Ruby (Thompson) Powell. She graduated from Jefferson High School and Thomasville Cosmetology School.
In the late 60’s she moved to Bonita Springs, FL and later found the love of her life, Stephen Poklemba. Together they started many business ventures like Poconos Resort and Beauty by Flo.
They then settled in Naples, FL to raise their family. She was active and volunteered in many community organizations such as Florida Agri Women, Lions Club, Barron Collier Band Booster, and School PTO. She had a passion for bowling and was involved in multiple bowling leagues. She also had a passion for cooking and loved to can fruits and vegetables. She loved to dance, sing, play cards, and lived life to the fullest.
What she was most proud of was her two beautiful daughters. She continued to stay active in their lives throughout college and after. She was known as Momma P to all. And boy did she love her FSU Seminoles and was an avid tailgater.
Florence and Steve decided to retire and move to Havana, FL in the early 2000’s. She enjoyed meeting new friends and reconnecting with old.
Florence was a dedicated Wife, Mom, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Sister-in-law, and Friend to so many and she had a heart of gold.
Preceded in death by her husband Stephen Poklemba, son-in law, Kenny Oliverio, her parents Luke and Ruby Powell, in-laws Steven and Helen Poklemba, and several in-laws.
Survived by her daughters Renee Zastrow (Kevin), April Oliverio (Joey Lee), stepchildren, Lee Ann Harrington (Tom), Diane Kratt (Jim), Steve Poklemba, Jr. (Laura), grand children, Ethan Martinez, Lauren Zastrow and Kyle Zastrow and several fur grandbabies.
Also, her siblings, Johnette Baggett, Barbara Miller, Sara Fiebe (Ed Dillon), Richard Powell (Linda), Carl Powell (Carolyn). Along with several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, in-laws and a multitude of friends, far and wide.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, Hillcrest Cemetery, Quincy FL, at 11:00 am and reception to follow at The Quincy Garden Center.
