Eugene “Gene” Murray Blount Havana, Florida - Eugene Murray Blount, born February 28, 1921 passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2018 surrounded by loving friends, family and his loving and devoted cat, Sonnie. He was a long-time Gadsden County resident, born in Providence Community near Greensboro, Florida.
Upon graduation from High School, Eugene, better known as “Gene”, joined the Navy and served in World War II as a Signalman Second Class in the Pacific Theater.
Gene was a Co-Owner and manager for many years, of the well-known Tallahassee Mecca Restaurant, located at the front gates of Florida State University.
Gene was a deeply spiritual person, and was a charter and faithful member of the New Hope Christian Center of Havana, Florida, where he served on the church Board with dedication.
Gene was proceeded in death by his parents; Bythwood Franklin Blount and Eva Elizabeth Blount, and step-mother Eva Richards Blount, sisters; Dorothy Clark, Lillian Hodges, Esther Scruggs, Margaret Canady, and brothers; Harry, Harold, Joseph (Mack), Wilton and Clyde Blount.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Emma, sons; Michael and David, daughters, Cheryl and Susan, one sister Martha (Nick) Athens, and one sister-in-law Ann (Clyde) Blount. Gene also leaves behind three grandchildren; Matt, Jamie, Alex and Jessica, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at New Hope Christian Center of Havana on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at 1:00 PM. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at 12:00 PM. Casual attire is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that any tribute be made to the New Hope Christian Center of Havana.
