Edith Berniece Chester, 94 of Havana, FL passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at her daughters home in Tallahassee.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday July 25, 2020 at Concord Cemetery, with Pastor Eric Erskine officiating the service. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Faith Funeral Home Chapel. (all CDC guidelines will be observed during the services)
Mrs. Chester was born in Calhoun County, FL on February 7, 1926 the daughter of the late Samuel Gainer and the late Susie Comerford Gainer.
Mrs Chester moved to Alford, FL where she grew up. She graduated at age 16 and was an elementary school teacher in Alford for several years. She then moved to Marianna and worked in the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for about 4 years. She moved to Havana and married T.P. Chester in August 1952. She worked as a homemaker, raising two children. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel to the Smokey Mountains, as well as other locations throughout the U.S. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Havana, where she had many special friends throughout the years.
She is survived by her daughter Jo Nell Chaaban (husband Dean) of Tallahassee; Her daughter in law Wanda Chester of Tallahassee. Her 5 grandchildren Jena Dorminy; Amy Chaaban; Steve Chester; April Mills; and Jonathan Halbert. and 8 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband T.P. Chester, her parents, her son Thomas David Chester, her sisters Ida Hewett; Ethel Shelfer; and Edna Singleton.
The family wishes to "Thank" Big Bend Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to their Mother, and grandmother during the last few months.
She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
