Dr. Mary Anne Butler DMD, 56, of Havana, FL. passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 15, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Doss officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, February 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Faith Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Shelfer Cemetery with David Coxen, Rick Warren, Lennie Butler, Dale Summerford, John Dooner and Michael Dooner serving as pallbearers. Mary Anne was born May 24, 1957 in Fort Benning, GA, the daughter of the late Colonel Richard F. Fischer and Alice C. Fischer. Mary Anne was an "Army Brat."
She was a majorette in high school and the valedictorian of her senior class. After her father retired to his hometown of Havana, Mary Anne chose to move back to Havana as well. She married the love of her life Miller Butler on February 16, 1985.
She was always a very focused and talented person. Mary Anne decided at age 12 to become a dentist. Mary Anne earned her dental degree and her Pediatric Dentistry Certification from the University of Florida. She later became a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist. She opened her pediatric dentistry practice in Tallahassee in October 1987. Mary Anne also taught dental hygiene at TCC. She enjoyed teaching students. She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Havana, and served many years helping to lead the youth ministry.
Mary Anne was a real "people person." She loved her close knit family, her staff, her young patients, friends and her church family. She had a way of making everyone feel very special. She loved her pets and the great outdoors. Mary Anne lived a very happy and active lifestyle.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years Miller Butler of Havana, her mother Alice Fischer of Havana, two sons Jack Butler (and wife Casey) of the Florida Keys; and Brett Butler of Havana. Two sisters Betsy (Boo) Coxen of Havana and Susan Warren (and husband Rick) of Havana.
She is preceded in death by her father Colonel Richard F. Fischer and brother-in-law Dean Coxen.
