Doris Duke

Biography

Doris Jane Duke, 83 of Havana, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday evening, July 25, 2011, after along and blessed life.
Mrs. Duke was born May 29, 1928 in Leesburg, GA, the daughter of Roy W. Melton and Alma Bullock Melton. After attending Sullivan College in Virginia, she married her high school sweetheart, and love of her life Bubba Duke. They were married on May 4, 1946.
A long time resident of Havana, FL. She was active in her church, and community. A member of Havana First Presbyterian Church for most of her life, she later joined her daughter and son-in-law at Havana First Baptist Church. As a homemaker she loved to garden, and cook for her family, she always enjoyed sharing her beautiful flowers with her friends. For sixty years she loved playing bridge with her dear friends.
Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Harold "Bubba" Duke of Havana; one son Bo Duke (and wife Robin) of Athens, GA; one daughter Debby Tucker (husband Stanley) of Havana; a brother DeLacey Allen of Augusta, GA; Six grandchildren Brad Touchton (wife Gaye) of Whigham, GA; Duke Touchton (wife Grayson) of
Havana; Evie Peacock (husband Jesse) of Havana; Ben Duke (wife Leanne) of Athens, GA; Jessica Allen(husband Preston) of Dahlonega, GA; and Jennifer Duke of Cummings, GA; and six great-grandchildren;Two nephews DeLacey Allen, III (wife Jera) of Southern California; and Byron Allen (wife Meredith) of Augusta, GA
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Faith Funeral Home. (850.539.4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com) The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Havana First Baptist Church with Dr. Eric Erskine officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
