David Sumner, a resident of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2024. He was 73 years old.
In accordance with David’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. However, all friends and acquaintances are invited to gather in remembrance at City Church Tallahassee, located at 3215 Sessions Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32303, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
David was born on September 15, 1951, in Quincy, Florida, to the late Clarence E. Sumner and the late Nell B. Ross. He graduated from high school in Port Saint Joe before continuing his education at Chipola College in Marianna, Florida. David dedicated nearly forty years of his life to serving as an engineer at the Florida Department of Transportation. He was also a longtime member and deacon at Concordia Baptist Church in Concord, Florida.
David is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marian J. Sumner, and their son Chris Sumner and his wife Meghan, both of Tallahassee. He was a devoted grandfather to four grandchildren—Araela, Landon, Liv, and Caleb—who all live in Tallahassee. Additionally, he leaves behind his siblings: Kenneth Sumner (Cynthia), Patricia Whitfield (Steve), Bobby Ross (Penny), Randy Anderson (Nena), Tony Anderson (Vanita), Dorothy Gray (Laymon), and Adronna Kombrinck (Bruce), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Big Bend Hospice at 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
