Carl Janton Strickland, 72, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee. The funeral service will be at 2:00pm Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Riverside Baptist Church in Havana with the burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee. The family will receive friends, Friday from 6 til 8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Strickland was born in Tallahassee on January 10, 1936. He lived in this area most of his life. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. He was a US Army Veteran. He was a brick mason by trade. He also retired from Lively Technical Center after teaching the art of masonry for more than 20 years. He was a true sportsman. He loved to fish and hunt. He love all wildlife. He was a very skilled photographer, taking many pictures of his award winning lilies he grew. He was a proud member of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife Jean Strickland of Havana. Two daughters, Michelle Taylor (and husband Kenneth) of Crawfordville; and Yvonnie Dowling (and husband Wendell) of Tallahassee. Two sisters Emma Lou Eshbaugh (and husband Dave) of St. Petersburg, and Diana V. Strickland and (husband Jack Fonner) of sopchoppy, and four grandchildren; Christina Tessmer (and husband Nathan of Antigo, WI. Amber, Danielle, and Hunter Dowling of Tallahassee. One Great-Granddaughter: Natalie Gail Tessmer.
