Biography

Calvin "Collis" Smith 85 of Havana, FL, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 in Tallahassee.

The graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011 at Vickers Cemetery in Havana. His family will receive friends from 5 till 7pm. Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Faith Funeral Home in Havana (850.539.4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com) Memorial contribution may be made to Big Bend Hospice 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL. 32308

Mr. Smith was born July 14, 1926 in Midland City, AL. The son of Sherman Smith and Mamie C. Everett Smith. He was a U S. Army Veteran. Mr. Smith was a farmer and a logger as a young man, later retiring as a heavy equipment operator at Floridene Corp. He was known for his beautiful Zinnias and sunflowers he grow and shared with his friends. He loved fishing and the great outdoors.

Survivor include two sons Calvin C. Smith, Jr. (wife June) of Hagerstown, MD and Eddie Bass, Jr. (Wife Karen) of Havana; one daughter Diane Henry (husband Donivan) of Tallahassee; Seven grandchildren, James Smith ( wife Amanda); William Smith; Barbra Whiddon (husband John); Thomas Henry; Mary Henry; Eddie Bass,III (wife Erica) and Amy Bass Powell (husband Ken); four great-grandchildren, Kinleigh Bass; Eddie Bass, IV and Knox and Kase Powell.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife Wylene Walsh Smith.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Big Bend Hospice for their kind and compassionate care they provided for their father.
