Our beloved Mother, Betty Jean Whitcomb Weeks, 94, of Tallahassee, FL, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 24, 2025. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Leland Weeks, her parents, William Taylor Whitcomb and Claudia Mae Crews Whitcomb, as well as her brother Harold Wayne Whitcomb. She is survived by her children William Guy Weeks & Linda Sue Weeks, as well as her sister Annabelle (Ann) Whitcomb James and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Betty Jean was a 5th-generation Floridian born in Zolfo Springs, Florida and was a descendent of Dempsey Crews Sr. She came from humble beginnings and was brought up helping her parents raise cattle. She attended the Tampa School of Business and moved to Tallahassee in the early 1950s to work for the Florida Railroad and Public Utilities Commission. She later accepted a job as secretary to the Secretary of State, Tom Adams. It was during her tenure with the State that she met her beloved husband, who was legal counsel for the Public Service Commission. They were married in 1961 in Bradenton and began their family. Betty worked alongside her husband in Real Estate for 25 years and continued real estate development and management after his passing for another 35 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker for 62 years, and a Seminole Booster for 61 years while not so secretly rooting for the Gators too.
She will be remembered for embodying the definition of classy. She was always admired for her soft, polite voice, her internal and external beauty, her wisdom, integrity, intelligence, and devotion to God and family. Betty was baptized in the Peace River, and her faith sustained her throughout her life. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church for 60 years, and God blessed her in so many ways with wonderful friends, neighbors, fun adventures, and mostly good health for 94 years.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Austin Zorn for his unequalled compassion, wisdom, and care, as well as Dr. Raymond James (Betty’s nephew), for always helping us in our hour of immediate need. We are forever grateful to the many wonderful caregivers of Right At Home for their devotion to our mother as she aged gracefully at home.
A celebration of life will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church on March 12, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am in the sanctuary, and the service will begin at 11:30 am. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall immediately afterward. The burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery to follow.
